Riding Competitively at Sweet Briar CollegeIntercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) TeamTryouts: Third Week of the fall semester Eligibility: All riders enrolled in a riding activity course and in good academic standing Size of Team: Sixteen to twenty riders Number of Competitions: Six to ten regular season shows Post Season Opportunities: Regionals, Zones, and Nationals if the rider qualifies College Support: Entry fees at all competitions, transportation to all competitions, lodging when needed Fall Field TeamTryouts: Spring semester Eligibility: Must be cantering courses at 2'9" or higher in the ring and the field with consistent performances and student must be in good academic standing Size of Team: Maximum of six riders, no more than four may be mounted on Sweet Briar horses Number of Competitions: Four to five hunter trials and hunter pace events College Support: Entry fees at all competitions, horse and rider transportation Fall Hunter Show TeamTryouts: Spring semester Eligibility: Must have been showing successfully at 2'9" or higher during the fall semester and have met the SBC riding requirements for the Handy Hunter Riding Level and student must be in good academic standing Size of Team: Maximum of eight riders, no more than four may be mounted on Sweet Briar horses Number of Competitions: Three to four USEF A rated shows and three to four SWVHJA rated shows College Support: Stalls and Bedding at three away horse shows, tack and grooming stalls, horse and rider transportation, lodging when needed, entry fees for all on-campus horse shows Fall Jumper Show TeamTryouts: Spring semester Eligibility: Must have been showing successfully at Level Three or higher during the fall semester and have met the SBC riding requirements for the Handy Jumper Riding Level and student must be in good academic standing Size of Team: Maximum of six riders all mounted on their own horses Number of Competitions: Three to four USEF A rated shows and three to four SWVHJA rated shows College Support: Stalls and Bedding at three away horse shows, tack and grooming stalls, horse and rider transportation, lodging when needed, entry fees for all on-campus horse shows American National Riding Commission (ANRC) and ODAC TeamTryouts: Fall semester (fall equitrial is generally required) Eligibility: Must be cantering courses at 2'9" or higher in the ring and the field with consistent performances and must meet the SBC riding requirements for the Handy Hunter or Jumper Riding Level and student must be in good academic standing Size of Team: Maximum of six riders, no more than four may be mounted on Sweet Briar horses Number of Competitions: One USEF A rated show, three to four SWVHJA rated shows, the spring equitrial, the ODAC Championship horse show and ANRC Nationals College Support: Stalls and Bedding at one away horse show, tack and grooming stalls, horse and rider transportation, lodging when needed, entry fees for all on-campus horse shows, entry fees and all other expenses for ODAC and ANRC Nationals Independent CompetitorsTryouts: Not applicable Eligibility: First year students may compete off-campus with their instructor's permission during their first semester in the riding program. All other riders must have completed the SBC riding requirements for the Handy Hunter or Jumper Riding Levels. Number of Competitors: We will take all eligible riders that we can arrange shipping for Number of Competitions: Three to four USEF A rated shows and three to four SWVHJA rated shows each semester. College Support: Horse transportation, tack and grooming stalls if needed, lodging for shows more than 75 miles away from campus. |
